MSI Instructions

The Solstice Windows client allows for either a GUI-based install or a silent install for all users on a machine.  This can be done on a local machine or as part of a remote deployment (e.g. SCCM) using a silent install.  The installer does need privileges to install system-wide but the installer does not explicitly check for these privileges.  This makes it easier to use the MSI in a remote deployment where either an administrator or the SYSTEM account can install this properly.  The MSI installer can specify installation parameters directly on the command line making it easier to deploy.
These are the current values that can be set during installation:
INSTALLDIR=<dir>.  This controls where the client will be installed.  The default is: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Mersive Technologies, Inc\Solstice\Client”.  Note:  The string “INSTALLDIR” must be written in capital letters.
STARTONLOGIN={ 0 | 1 }.  This controls whether the client will auto launch when a user logs in.  A value of 1 means it will start automatically, 0 means it will not.  Note: the string “STARTONLOGIN” must be written in capital letters.
HIDEUIWHENSHARING={ 0 | 1 }.  This controls whether the client User Interface (UI) is hidden when the desktop is being shared.  This is a convenient shortcut so it doesn’t get in the way of your sharing.  A value of 1 means it will automatically hide, 0 means it will not.  Note: the string “HIDEUIWHENSHARING” must be written in capital letters.
SDSADDRESS=<string> where <string> can be a domain name (e.g. x.y.z) or an IP address (  This controls the initial setting of the Solstice Discovery Service (SDS) address for the client.  If this parameter is not given, the client’s SDS Address will not be modified.  Note:  the string “SDSADDRESS” must be written in capital letters.
Starting with version 3.3.0, the client specific data that was stored in each user’s home directory will now be stored in a central shared location.  This allows for centralized management of these settings and the ability to update them for all users at installation time.  Any previous values stored on a per-user basis will not be available starting in 3.3.0.

msiexec /i SolsticeClient-3.3.0.msi INSTALLDIR=”C:\Program Files (x86)\SolsticeClient” STARTONLOGIN=0 HIDEUIWHENSHARING=1 /quiet /log c:\SolsticeClient.log
This example will:
  • silently install the client in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\SolsticeClient,
  • not start the client on login
  • hide the user interface when sharing the desktop
  • set the SDS address to
  • write an installation log file named C:\SolsticeClient.log.
The command line values can also be set using the User Interface of the installer itself.  This is a new dialog added to the installer that looks like this (note that the installation directory is entered on a previous dialog page):
